Meet Fiat Punto II
Since the offer of this model on our markets, in car exibition shows, and other new models from Zastava bigger, we decided to get you to know it better. Second generation of Punto, which started it life journey in 1999. found its way to the wallet of many buyers. In this text I have the intention to inform you about its flaws and virtues.
As soon as the first model of this car appeared, it became the corner stone of the Italian factory, which proved to be a good strategy, concerning the fact that over 6 million cars have been sold till nowadays and it has been keeping the place of the most selling model of Fiat. The first restilization of the model took place in 1999. and brouth about the prettier and more reliable car, and the second was done in 2003. and that model is still trendy. Its manufacture was continued in our Zastava under the name Zastava 10. Exterior differs in bigger and more efficient headlights. Still, it will remain on the model of II generation, which represents our most interesting used car, concerning very realistic and accessible price.
Punto has gained after all popularity in public, with plenty of space in the interior as well as with the usage in different conditions of exploitation. It is especially seen in front seats where people of overaverage height won’t have problems to station themselves comfortably. In the story of space is well fitted the luggage space with 297 l and only stays behind Citoren C3 which has 305 l. SThe seats are asymetrically divisible, and after pulling them down, you get the space of 1080 l. Because of this caution is needed, because many 3-door models in our country, have been used as the vehicles for the transport of goods, or with the demounting of the rear seats became passenger version over night. If you notice that, go round it.
Carpet on the floor is very thin and of low quality, as well as plastic parts in interior. Finalization also isn’t on high level , but it’s not too obvious and in most cases suits the ammount of money invested in the car. You will be satisfied with the arrangement of controls,as well as the number of departments in doors and in the front panel. Optional equipment in all versions is rich and usually comprises two airbags, manual aitr conditioning, servo steering wheel with two working modes, factory music device, board computer, electric front heavers, coded key, central locking, etc. Anticorossive protection is first-class and you won’t have problems with corossion even if the laque is damaged on some part of body work.
In driving Punto is a bit stiffly adjusted and transverse rough spots on the road can be felt. The seats, especially front, are comfortable and long driving won’t be tiring. The female part of population will especially like „dual drive“ mode of the servo steering wheel, which makes the steering of the wheel much easier because of the button labeled „city“ and that is very important while parking.
It’s important to mention that on the speed bigger than 70 km/h this system, for security reasons, turn off by itself. Suspensions on cars which our police uses haven’t shown the signs of weariness even after longer usage, so probably you won’t have the problems too, which can’t be confirmed for front brake discs, driving belt or for example water pump. The greatest number of complaints concerned overheating and damage of spark plugs, and that was solved in later models by installation of new covers for headlights with ventilation. You won’t be satisfied with the headlight performance in night driving, especially if they are blurred headlight’s glasses, except if you haven’t bought model manufactured today in Zastava, which has improved headlights.
First models had the problem with „shivering“ of windshield wipers and with the creaking oclutch, which was soon after removed in factory.As in all models of Fiat problems with electrics can show up, so better, for example. avoid models with factory alarm. The models with automatic gear are beautiful and easy to drive, but their maintainance in our services is expensive and problematic.
Engines are very reliable and long-lasting which has been for a long time a characteristics and virtue of Fiat. This version of Punto had rich offer of engines, and you can find different engine versions in our market. The most usual engine you’ll find is petrol engine 1.2 with 8 valves and 60ks. It’s a low consumer and in case of damage the repair will be the cheapest, since the the pistons and valves probably won’t be damaged, which happen even in stronger petrol engines with hydraulic valve heavers. In these stronger versions increase of performance for 20-30 ks and more is noticed through better accelerations, quiet work of aggregate and when the air conditioning is on and in regime when you „slap“ the gas pedal, with moderate fuel consumption in comparison to the the driving regime. Oil consumption goes from 50-70 ml of motor oil on 1000 km. From diesel engines, it offers older 1.9 D and modern and better 1.9 JTD of 80 ks and torque 196 Nmon low 1500 0/min.
Possible problems are caused by bad fuel, with EGR valve because of accumulation of soot, and with injectors which get blocked so the engine works worse. This can easily be solved in authorized service. In some models there was oil leaking in carter so that has to be checked also when purchase.
Models produced between 1999. and 2003. sellers vlaue from 3500 to 5500 euros, which mostly depends from the general state of the car, the engine version and optional equipment which is in the offer. Especially now, when Fiat and Zastava expand cooperation, which will lead to the expanding number of authorized services and improvement of the quality of their work. And among experienced drivers it is known that the car is as good as the service which maintains it.
